I'm sitting on the couch right now watching the NFL Draft with my husband… Okay, so I'm not really watching it, I'm snuggling with my dog and writing this email, but when Floyd tells me some fact about how the Browns are going to trade their picks to get other picks and blah blah blah I'm like “That's cool, why are they doing that?” And then back to this week's email 🙂
But it's giving me a sweet metaphor for what I want to share with you today: every quarterback needs a team.
Many of us are solopreneurs. We're doing it all alone. Some of us might have virtual assistants (I don't yet, I'm kinda not sure what I would outsource and I need to work on my control freakiness).
We're all members of Facebook groups where we bounce ideas off each other (let's be honest, Facebook advice can be hit or miss).
Some of us are part mastermind groups (which makes me think of Mr. Burns tapping his fingers together while devising his next nefarious plan). It's a awesome idea, but it's a challenge to find the right mix of people and the time to get together.
To me, the best part about the sheer number of online entrepreneurs is that I can draft a team of experts who can help me identify where I suck and help me fix it. A team that will help me take it to the next level.
Sometimes I get nervous because I see other WordPress pros posting services like what I do and I feel anxiety about the “competition.”
But then I have to remind myself: I have a few favorite experts for list building. I have a couple more that I seek out for copywriting. A couple different people for marketing, and a few more for Facebook ads (Power Editor will not defeat me!!) My team has depth at each position – where one player lacks, I've got another one waiting in the wings to pick up the slack.
I have some favorite mentors and experts that have helped me build my business, find time for everything, help me be healthier and happier and help me to feel like I'm on the right path.
Most of them I've never met, I just consume their content – (free and not-free-but-more-than-worth-it). Others I've communicated with via Facebook, email, Google Hangouts and text – and some are fellow BFFs.
I encourage you to draft your team of experts in all areas of your life, not just business. You've already got me for WordPress, and I suppose if you need more depth at that position I'll be okay with it 😉
