Day 1: My List Building Goal for 2016

This post is part of a series where I'm sharing my experience taking Nathalie Lussier's 30 Day List Building Challenge again in 2016, plus giving you tips, tricks and lessons I learned from using it to jumpstart list-building in 2015. You can sign up for Nathalie's Challenge any time here.
Day One of the Challenge involves picking a goal for your email list and getting an idea of what to expect throughout the next 30 days.
Last year that my goal was to reach 100 subscribers – from zero. And I didn't make it in 30 days, I think it took about 40 – and they all came from Nathalie's Facebook group LOL!
One of the things I didn't realize last year is that a lot of the effort you put in up front will take a while to bear fruit, as Nathalie says. Things that you do now may not pay off for several months, but you are building the foundation for future list growth.
Later in the Challenge, I was looking for that one big thing that was going to get me hundreds of subscribers, like a guest post on Huffington Post. That's seemed like the ultimate goal, like if you got that opportunity, you made it!
Oh, and how I struggled to write a post about WordPress! I wasted so much time and energy on trying to put myself in the same box with everyone else…
So my key takeaway from Day One is to be patient. Don't put unrealistic expectations on explosive growth. Small consistent actions daily.
You guys know I'm talking to myself, right?
So my list building goal for all of 2016 is to go from 1,500 to 5,000. And this isn't just some random number – I have some big plans for later in the year and I want to reach as many people as I possibly can!
If you want to join us in building your list in 2016, I'll support you in a lot of different ways. The first is to help you build your WordPress site.
